Why these new regulations?

This requirement is in response to a desire by the authorities to combat deception about the origin of food products. The Federal Office of Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (FOSV) says that this measure will provide consumers with better information and promote local products. For several years, imports of bakery and pastry products have increased. The compulsory written declaration of origin for bread and pastries provides customers with simpler, more transparent information, enabling them to choose Swiss products that are both local and responsible.
